When shopping for diamonds online, you should evaluate each stone based on its beauty and the 4 Cs (Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat). Here is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the online options and land a truly stunning stone.
1. Choose a reliable dealer : If you don’t choose a reputable dealer, it will be difficult to find the right diamond at a great price. In our years of experience, your family jeweler may not be the right choice. Diamond values are simple math. Learn and demand the values you want. Don’t accept anything less.
2. Verify the Certificate : A lab certificate is important because it verifies that your diamond is as the seller stated. However, not all certificates are created equal. Look for a diamond with a GIA, IGI, AGS or GLT certificate. Then compare the cut and clarity values on the certificate to the correct values we recommend. A diamond certificate indicates the numerical dimensions and values of your stone, not the most accurate values for you.
Absolutely DO NOT ACCEPT THE JEWELRY CERTIFICATE.
3. Consider the Cut : When examining a diamond selection, only select brilliant or ideal cut diamonds. You also want to look beyond these ratings. For Round Cuts, make sure the depth percentage is below 62.5% and the table percentage is below 60%. Read our page for accurate cut values.
4. Take Care of Your Eyes: Zoom in on the diamond you are considering for clarity (if available). Check for any inclusions or flaws. If you notice a flaw in an online photo or video, you will be able to see it in person. Choose the lowest VS1 and VS2 diamonds. Don’t be tempted by the price tag of SI or I grades.
5. Color: You want a diamond that appears white. Typically, diamonds in the GH color range appear colorless and cost much less than stones in the DF range. Take a close look at the diamond to see if you notice any brown or yellow tints.
6. Decide Your Carat Weight: While the size of a diamond is important to some, we think carat should be one of your final decisions. First, you want to choose a beautifully cut diamond, then make sure it looks white and doesn’t have any visible blemishes or inclusions. From there, spend the rest of your budget on Carat Weight.
7. Determine Your Budget: Once you have determined the criteria for the right solitaire, determine your budget. When you subtract the ring cost from your budget, your diamond budget will be approximately the same. You can now interpret it with other values, giving priority to the best cut quality.
8. Don't Rush: Do your research online, make comparisons and have the advantage of not being rushed by a pushy salesperson. Consult our diamond education articles for expert opinions while shopping. Remember, you get a 15-20% advantage when you buy in advance at birkarat.com.tr.
